Delving into Censorship of the Cultural Contents: A Comparative Study of the Persian Dubbed English Films in the IRIB and Online Broadcast

چکیده :

Considering that video on demand (VOD) platforms in Iran have their fans, it is necessary to check the quality of dubbed movies in these services and compare them with the broadcasting platform. In this study the Farsi dubbing of three English movies (the nun, the help, and home alone) with different genres on the platforms Islamic republic of Iran broadcasting (IRIB) were examined and compared with Namava in terms of censorship. The results showed that the quality of translation and dubbing of the selected films in the broadcast platform has differences and similarities with Namava. The similarity between these two platforms is that both are broadcast platforms in Iran and comply with the laws of the Islamic Republic. The difference is that dubbing in Namava faces fewer restrictions and verbally dubs and translates more freely censorship in Namava has been removed except in very special cases, while in audio and television, it has more restrictions and even up to faint avoids and censors any kind of immoral behavior and activities, and in terms of speech, it is more politely dubbed in IRIB compared to Namava. IRIB is also closer to the target translation. In the end, some practical implications are offered for translators and platforms, and some suggestions are made for further study.
