چکیده :
English proficiency is a must for banks personnel to effectively communicate and navigate complex financial transactions in today’s globalized economy. Despite its significance, there is a notable dearth of studies focusing on the English language needs of bank employees. This study addresses this gap by investigating the English language requirements of 200 Tejarat Bank staff, comprising both newly hired and experienced employees, through a 41-item closed-ended questionnaire followed by short interview sessions. The findings indicate that while newly hired employees possess a basic familiarity with English, the majority of experienced personnel demonstrate an inadequate command of the English language. Furthermore, the results highlight that reading and speaking are the two most critical areas of need for these employees in their workplace interactions. This study underscores the necessity for targeted English language training programs tailored to the specific needs of banking professionals, ultimately enhancing their communication skills and overall job performance in an increasingly competitive environment. The findings of this study suggest a reevaluation of existing ESP instructional methods employed within banking institutions. Pedagogical implications for the human resources development department, curriculum designers, material developers, and instructors were discussed in detail.
