چکیده :
Analyzing Alex Michaelides' novel The Silent Patient through a Lacanian lens, it engages with the complex dynamics of human psychology by looking at Alicia Berenson who happens to go mute since she was arrested for killing her spouse. The paper examines the relationship between conscious wants and unconscious drives, the effects of trauma, and the search for psychological wholeness within it. This study uses Lacan’s psychoanalytical theory to shed light on various characters’ motivation and therapeutic dynamics; symbolic order theory (desire); “the Other’s” role. The psyche has been pierced by the psychoanalysis based on Lacanian in an attempt to tap into the hidden layers of the mind in the story of Alicia Bernson who turns mute after suspecting that she committed murder against her husband. This is a discussion of some topics such as conscious desires versus unconscious motivations, how distressing experiences affect a person’s actions and the search for complete mental health. Lacanian psychoanalysis will be used in this paper to refer to that form of therapy involving human desire that is fundamentally about symbolic order and the part the other plays in comprehending the patient’s drive and techniques in the context of the cure.
