چکیده :
With the emergence of new perspectives in Translation Studies, ecology which had previously found its way in linguistics and literary criticism also appeared in the interdisciplinary of Translation Studies. The necessity of it rests on the climate crisis we are facing today. In this regard, Eco-Translation is “an attempt to think through some of the assumptions we make about translation and how they may need to be radically re-thought on a planet that, from a human standpoint, is entering the most critical phase of its existence” (Cronin, 2017, p. 3). By narrowing down Eco-translation to ecology as the object of study, “Ecotranslation can be understood as a translation that recognizes and retains ecological themes from the source text” (Bradley, 2021, p. 1). This study, in this regard, aims to investigate the Persian subtitle of the “Planet Earth” documentary and to determine whether translation conjures up the same ecological image of the source text. By employing the comparative model proposed by van Leuven-Zwart (1989), the study attempts to analyze the nuances of wilderness at the microstructure level. As the results show, both synonymic (for example, translating “cubs” into “بچهها” [children]) and hyponymic (for example, translating “seals” into “حیوانات دریایی” [marine animals]) relationship between the translation and the source text fade the ecological imagery.
