چکیده :
Translation has always been an integral aspect of journalism especially due to globalization and the advances in media. Recently translation studies researchers have shown an interest in incorporating journalistic frameworks (Naderian, 2009; Valdeón, 2022). One of the age-old journalism topics is news value and a linguistic framework for analyzing news value has been proposed by Bednarek and Caple (2017). The main purpose of this study was to conduct intersemiotic and interdisciplinary research and evaluate news value in the headlines and images of translational news related to an international conference (Davos Conferences) on Persian news websites: IRNA, ISNA, Fars, and Tabnak. In total 60 news pieces (headline and image) were analyzed. The results indicated that in all the new agencies the news value of Eliteness is the most incorporated one in headlines and images and portraying an elite figure/institution is the key reason for considering an event valuable enough to become news in Iranian news agencies. Negativity and Superlativeness respectively fall on the second and third most-utilized news values suggesting that a negative and intensified situation might have more readers than a positive one in Iran. Subsequently, the vast use of Impact shows when the effects of a situation are clear, it is more likely for that situation to become a headline. Lastly, Proximity and Timeliness were favored because news must be recent and attract local audiences to make revenue. In general, these four agencies are similar in their choice of news values in translational news pieces and there is a translational relationship between the headline and the image as well.
