The Role of Strategic Management in the Iranian EFL Teaching and Learning Program: With Emphasis on Macro Language Planning Strategy

چکیده :
Strategic managers and English language planning policy makers can play an effective and important role in guiding and improving EFL learners by applying the principles of strategic management.The main purpose of this article was to evaluate the perception of language planning and policy professionals and material developers about the functional benefits of strategic management and its contributory role in language planning in Iranian EFL teaching and learning programs.A qualitative approach utilizing a structured interview was applied ad the interview questions were derived from the categories suggested by Dunn (2000). The respondents were purposively selected from the target populations including professionals involved in strategic management and policymakers of English language planning. The data was content analyzed. The analysis and interpretation of the coded, transcribed, and recorded data supported the main prediction, and it was concluded that to improve the efficiency of the English language program in Iran, the principles of strategic management should be operationalized hoping to strengthen the efficacy of policy planning, strategy formulation, and implementation as well as evaluation of the outcomes defined by mission statements regarding the program.
