چکیده :
History, a field dating back to the origins of civilization, has always been a topic of interest among scholars. Traditionally defined, history covers events which occurred in days gone by. Novel approaches have extended the definition, and currently, any study carried out in this domain, no longer limits itself to the information recorded on timelines. A historiographical outlook, as proposed by Hayden White, is intent on investigating the causes and effects which lead to the occurrence of incidents and prefers to study them within a framework. In variably, in is historical narration that provides evidence, yet it is the objective of this article to present historical data from sources which are less conventional, such as poetry. Mari Evans, as a committed poet, attempts to re-ell the trajectory of the enslaved Black individual; her concern dealing with both physical and mental slavery. This study shall answer questions about the employment of literary techniques in poetry and semiotic signs which aid the poet in her mission. It will also respond to the historiographical demand of investigating the causes and effects of slavery.
