چکیده :
The discourse of feminism has been of controversial topics for at least past fifty years. The area of this discourse includes many aspects of social, economic, cultural and many other aspects of daily life. A significant area of conversation is how the ideological beliefs of feminism which is formed in western societies can be identified by women living or born in eastern cultures. Bell Hooks in her book, Feminism for Everybody, discusses the idea that in order for feminism to impersonate a globally accepted ideal, the presented ideas should be more conclusive. Hooks argues that the majority of current feminism represents the rights of white women hence, it is sometimes unidentifiable by women of color or in lower social status. Chandra Talpade Mohanty in the book, Feminism and War, reflects the same idea. However, her main focus on the influence armed conflicts on women and the suppression faced by women from the patriarchal system of the war. In this essay I will be analyzing the book, Memoirs of a Geisha, concentrating on the concept which discusses how a woman of eastern culture experiencing the effects of war, patriarchy, and cultural domination of men can identify with principles of western based feminism. The ideas of Bell Hooks and Chandra Talpade Mohanty will be the main touchstones in this analysis. This essay is going to attempt to bridge a smoother approach for feminism to conclude eastern women practicing feminism. The main objective would be to analyze a conclusive approach to practice feminism.
